  • We are passionate about wildlife at Vitality Vetcare!

Dr Megan is one of the few vets in the Northern Rivers with advanced post-graduate training in treating Australian wildlife and participating in conservation projects. She recently graduated with a Master of Veterinary Studies in Conservation Medicine from Murdoch University.

Conservation medicine is a new discipline integrating veterinary science, conservation biology and human public health.

The purpose of conservation medicine is to advance biodiversity conservation and find solutions to problems associated with the inter-relationships between human, animal and ecosystem health, including the impacts of global environmental changes.

The team at Vitality Vetcare, Bangalow treat injured, sick and orphaned wildlife as volunteers, for free. Wild animals are rescued by one of the local wildlife groups and if necessary, they arrange for the team at Vitality Vetcare to provide specialised veterinary care.

When these animals are ready to go into rehabilitation, they are transferred back to the local wildlife group. We work closely with WIRES Northern Rivers, Northern Rivers Wildlife Carers and Friends of the Koala.

  • If you find a sick, injured or orphaned wild animal please call the relevant local wildlife group:

Dr Megan is one of the founders of the Northern Rivers Wildlife Hospital project. The NRWH project aims to build and run a charitable wildlife hospital in the Northern Rivers. The NRWH is a registered charity and is in the process of applying for tier 1 DGR status. The Northern Rivers Community Foundation has created a Northern Rivers Wildlife Hospital infrastructure sub-fund so that our community can start to support the building project.

If you wish to become a member of the NRWH and support this much needed facility please apply here https://members.nrwh.org.au/
